PROSPECTS FOR AND EFFICIENCY IN APPLICATION OF SPACE NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS AND NUCLEAR ELECTROROCKET PROPULSION SYSTEMS

Presented are the results of RSC Energia made conceptual design studies on potential applications and efficient use of space systems based upon nuclear electric power sources of hundreds and thousands of kilowatts and electrorocket propulsion systems. Examined are spacecraft and communication and observation systems; systems of debris removal from space, Earth protection against asteroid hazards; planetary power stations; reusable transfer vehicles under the program of Moon exploration and Martian mission.

FLIGHT DYNAMICS OF SEA LAUNCH PROGRAM

Presented are comparative safety analysis of launch ground tracks, description of mission designs for the integrated launch vehicle Zenit-3SL with upper stage Block DM-SL, data on launches and actual accuracy of spacecraft injection into geotransfer orbit. Multiple successful missions have proven the validity of flight dynamics design for the Sea Launch program.

GENERALIZED SERVICE LIFE DISTRIBUTION FUNCTION FOR INSTRUMENTS AND ASSEMBLIES OF ORBITAL STATIONS

Generalized distribution function has been developed for service life of elements within Russian orbital stations. The function takes into account the physics of the failure process and can be used for evaluating reliability of an orbital station, as well as for predicting failure flow characteristics and providing support for space station scheduled maintenance.

COMPUTER SIMULATION OF ACTIVE PHASED ARRAY ANTENNA

The relevance of designing active phased array antennas for guaranteed accomplishment of the mission task of providing mobile satellite communications is discussed; math, numerical and electrodynamic simulations of active phased array antennas are described.

STUDY AND OPTIMIZATION OF USING RETROREFLECTORS TO LOCALIZE SPACE OBJECTS

The paper describes the use of retroreflectors for location of space objects. The energy estimation of probing laser beams with Gaussian distribution of energy density was carried out. The task of multicriteria optimization of parameters of the probing laser beams of onboard laser locators, and quality of manufacturing retroreflectors using Pareto sets, the use of which permits to avoid an uncertainty in selection of criteria significance, was solved.

DEVELOPMENT AND SIMULATION OF LARGE SPACE ROCKET STAGES SEPARATION PROCESSES

Reviewed in the paper are issues related to simulation of large space rocket stages separation processes. It presents main types of separation systems, and proposes a method for calculating the separation process. It demonstrates the objectives and tasks of developmental testing. A method has been developed to adjust experimental results to space environments. A method is provided for calculating the separation process reliability.

ONBOARD AND GROUND CONTROL COMPLEXES AND SYSTEMS

SIMULTANEOUS CONTROL OF CENTRE OF MASS AND AROUND CENTRE OF MASS MOTION DURING SC MANEUVERS PERFORMANCE ON GEOSYNCHRONOUS AND HIGH ELLIPTIC ORBITS USING ELECTRIC ROCKET ENGINES

Developed are spacecraft (SC) inertial actuator angular momentum control algorithms in performance of in-orbit maneuvers using electric rocket engines arranged according to configuration which enables to simultaneously develop forces and control moments relative to SC centre of mass. Presented are the results of geosynchronous SC Yamal-202 flight-design tests, as well as mathematical modeling of high-elliptic orbit-based advanced SC maneuvers.

THERMAL CONTROL AND LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS.

DEVELOPMENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ON LIFE SUPPORT SYSTEMS FOR SPACEFLIGHT

The International Organization for Standardization approved a three-level standard structure developed by Russian specialists on human integration with the life support (LSS) systems and equipment in a spaceflight, and prepared working revisions of three draft standards (one for each level). Such approach makes it possible to rapidly develop and coordinate separate standards for each type of habitability in a spaceflight. Russia being a prime developer of these standards gets a priority in the area of LSS standardization.

THERMAL CONTROL SYSTEM INTERNAL LOOP HEAT CARRIERS OF MANNED SPACE VEHICLES

Experimental data is presented on physicochemical, thermal and operational properties of heat carriers for manned space vehicle thermal control system internal loops. Outlined are the results of heat carrier corrosion and biomedical tests.
