DSM Delta Project
ARGES EXPERIMENT

Experiment ARGES is a part of the scientific research program to be conducted by ESA astronaut of the Dutch nationality Andre Kuipers onboard the ISS RS in the frame of DSM Delta Project. The European Space Agency is a customer of the preparation and implementation of the research program.

The experiment is conducted in MSG on the US On-Orbit Segment of the ISS.

USED SCIENCE HARDWARE:

  • ARGES Experiment Container (with damping frame)
    (20 lamps filled with xenon, mercury (up to 10mg) and iodic salts of various metals)

  • ARGES Kit
    with experiment accessories.

CONSUMABLES:

  • ARGES Return Kit
    • Mini-DV video tapes
    • Pen Drive data storage
 

PURPOSE:

Determine the critical factors for the onset of helical instabilities in high-intensity discharge lamps and characterize radial de-mixing by emission spectroscopy.

OBJECTIVE:

Take radially resolved emission spectra and data on helical instabilities in plasma.

EXPERIMENT RESULTS:

Information recorded on Pen Drive data storage and videotapes located in ARGES Return Kit.
