CREW RESTRAINT EXPERIMENT

CREW RESTRAINT experiment is a part of the science research program to be performed aboard the ISS RS by Pedro Duque, ESA astronaut of Spanish nationality in the frame of the SSM SERVANTES Project. The European Space Agency is a customer for the preparation and implementation of the scientific program.

The experiment is conducted in MSG on the U Segment of the ISS.

USED SCIENCE HARDWARE:

The astronaut restraint consisting of the knee restraint and interface beam. The knee restraint is designed to restrain astronaut's feet and is attached on the interface beam, which in its turn is mounted on the structural elements of the US Segment of the ISS.

PURPOSE:

Testing of astronaut restraint concept.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Testing of "knee-block" concept
  • Testing of the restraint device restraining the body at a knee level and allowing the astronaut to work (including a laptop) during a long period of time.

EXPERIMENT RESULTS:

Assessment of a new astronaut restraint device.
