Progress M-NM designers inspection and encapsulation into payload fairing are complete

November 16, 2021

At the processing facility of the Baikonur Cosmodrome the preflight processing of the cargo transportation spacecraft-module (CTSCM) Progress -N carrying Node Module (N) Prichal of the Russian Segment of the International Space Station (ISS) is proceeding to completion.

Today, specialists from S.P.Korolev RSC Energia and core enterprises of Roscosmos have conducted the designers inspection of Progress M-NM in hall 102 of the integration and test facility at Site 254 and subsequently performed processing operations to encapsulate it into the payload fairing within the assembly protection block of the spacecraft-module ascent unit. After installation and mechanical attachment of both payload fairing doors, the electrical circuits of PLF jettison system pyro devices were checked.

A standard 4.1-m-diameter payload fairing is used for launching the Progress M-NM. It provides protection of the spacecraft-module against aerodynamic and thermal loads when the launch vehicle goes through dense atmosphere in the initial phase of ascent.

The universal Node Module Prichal developed and produced by S.P.Korolev RSC Energia is designed to increase technical and operational capabilities of the ISS Russian Segment. The launch of the Prichal NM within Progress M-NM by launch vehicle Soyuz-2.1b is planned for November 24, 2021.
