Nauka module mated to the adapter section

June 21, 2021

At the processing facility of Area 254 of the Baikonur cosmodrome, the final phase of prelaunch processing began for the Multi-purpose Laboratory Module (MLM) Nauka. Today, specialists from RSC Energia, Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center, and SC Yuzhny completed the sequence of operations to mate the Nauka MLM to the adapter section of the third stage of the launch vehicle (LV).

The adapter section is a part of the ascent unit and provides a mechanical link between the module and the payload fairing, as well as its electrical connection with the Proton-M LV. According to the standard prelaunch processing schedule, the mating operation will be followed by the MLM weight check, after which the specialists will proceed with the final assembly of the ascent unit and filling of the module propellant tanks.

The Multipurpose Laboratory Module Nauka is a research module for the Russian Segment of the International Space Station developed by S.P.Korolev RSC Energia jointly with the Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center in order to expand the functionality of the Russian Segment of the ISS.
