Nauka module pneumatics and vacuum tests completed at Baikonur

May 12, 2021

At the Baikonur launch site, specialists from S.P.Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia (which is a part of State Corporation Roscosmos) have successfully completed pneumatics and vacuum testing of the laboratory module Nauka. The tests, which lasted about a month, verified the pressure integrity of the hull, hatches and docking assemblies, as well as the functioning of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, propulsion system and external hydraulic systems after their installation.

At present the module is in the processing jig and is being readied for the final installation of the European Robotic Arm, which is to be followed by filling the lines of the thermal control system of the module. After that the work on the installation of the micrometeoroid shields will continue.

Nauka module is a research module for the Russian Segment of the International Space Station developed by S.P.Korolev RSC Energia (onboard systems and scientific instrumentation) in cooperation with the Krunichev State Research and Production Space Center (overall design and manufacturing, both are parts of the State Corporation Roscosmos) to expand the functionality of the Russian Segment of the International Space Station.
