Seventy years of OKB-1

April 26, 2020

April 26, 1950 pursuant to the Order of the Minister of Arms of the USSR D.F.Ustinov Special Design Bureau No. 1 (OKB-1) for development of long-range missiles under the leadership of Chief Designer Sergei Pavlovich Korolev was built up within Moscow region NII-88. This event determined the establishment of OKB-1 (now Rocket and Space Public Corporation Energia) as the founder of all the main areas in development of the national rocket and space technology.

On August 14, 1956, Special Design Bureau No.1 together with pilot plant No.88, became an independent enterprise, OKB-1. S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Public Corporation Energia is an assignee of OKB-1, TsKBEM, NPO Energia and RSC Energia.

For reference:

August 26, 1946 is deemed to be the foundation day of RSC Energia. On August 9, 1946 pursuant to the Order of the Minister of Arms of the USSR D.F.Ustinov S.P.Korolev was appointed the Chief Designer of Product No.1 - a long-range ballistic missile. On August 26, 1946 by order of the Minister of Arms of the USSR D.F. Ustinov the structure of NII-88 was determined, which legally approved the establishment of department 3 as part of SCB.
