Yury Nikolaevich Koptev is eighty

On March 13 Yury Nikolaevich Koptev, laureate of State Prizes of the USSR and the Russian Federation, Doctor of Sciences, Honoured Scientist of the Russian Federation, Honored Worker of the Rocket and Space Industry of the Russian Federation marks the 80th anniversary.

The management and staff of the Rocket and Space Corporation Energia sincerely congratulate Yury Nikolaevich on his anniversary and wish him good health, a cheerful mood and long life!

After graduation from N.E. Bauman Moscow State Technical University in 1965 Y.N. Koptev began his career at S.A. Lavochkin Machine-Building plant, then from 1969 to 1991 he worked at the Ministry of General Machine-Building of the USSR, began his way up from senior engineer to Deputy Minister. At a period of 1992 to 1999 Yu.N. Koptev is General Director of the Russian Space Agency, from 1999 to March 2004 Koptev is General Director of the Russian Aerospace Agency. At the present time Yu.N. Koptev is Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Council of State Corporation Roscosmos.

Yu.N. Koptev was at the head of the aerospace industry in 1990s which are considered one of the most hard periods in the formation of Russia. It was the period when he took an active part in the development and implementation of grandiose projects: multimodule research complex Mir, manned transport and cargo spacecraft of the Soyuz and Progress series, the Yamal communication satellites of a new generation and such International Programs as Mir-Shuttle and Mir-NASA, Sea Launch, International Space Station.

Over the years Yu.N. Koptev was Chairman of the Board of Directors of S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia. Then in difficult financial and economic conditions we had to solve by the joint efforts the most complicated scientific-technical and production problems by joint efforts when creating the advanced space assets that reliably served and continue to serve to increase the strength and prosperity of Russia.
