The up-to-date assembly and testing facility is being created at Energia

January 24, 2019

The technical re-equipment and reconstruction of production are the time challenges for many enterprises of rocket-space industry including RSC Energia. This year the Corporation is launching a project to create a up-to-date complex for the assembly and testing of products related to the manned flight program.

The investment project was approved by State Corporation Roscosmos. Glavgosexpertiza of Russia issued a positive statement on the basis of the results of the validity check of the determination of the estimated cost of the project. It provides for reconstruction and technical re-equipment of the production and administrative building of the total area of 12 203 square meters.

The project will increase the production area and create new jobs for the assembly of the new generation products, as well as the assembly of the Soyuz and the Progress spacecraft compartments, modules, upper stages and satellites for various applications. Conducting the assembly and test operations in the same building will significantly reduce the labor costs for moving the spacecraft compartments between the shops.

It is planned that during reconstruction the railway tracks will be laid to ensure a passage through the building. It is also assumed that new and already existing engineering communications will be installed.

In addition to the building reconstruction, the outdated equipment will be replaced by the up-to-date, high-performance and high-precision equipment.

The project is being implemented in the scope of the implementation of the Federal Space Program of Russia.

The new assembly and testing facility is planned to be put into operation in 2021.

This project will be the first step to update the research-and-production base of the enterprise. In the coming years with the support of State Corporation Roscosmos at RSC Energia it is planned to reconstruct facilities for assembly-testing and composite production, as well as the supporting infrastructure. The technical re-equipment of the enterprise shall provide conditions for the development of the advanced Russian launch vehicle of the middle class within the time period declared.

RSC Energia is the leader in the rocket and space industry, and the prime contractor for manned space systems. The Corporation conducts work on the development of unmanned space and rocket systems (launch vehicles and orbital transfer vehicles), and high-technology systems for various non-space applications.

State Corporation ROSCOSMOS is a State Corporation established in August 2015 in order to conduct a comprehensive reform of the rocket and space industry in Russia. State Corporation Roscosmos assures implementation of the Government policies in the field of space activities and provides for them a legal and regulatory framework, as well as places orders for the development, production and delivery of space hardware and space infrastructure facilities. The functions of the State Corporation also include development of international cooperation in space, and creating conditions for using results of space activities in social and economic development of Russia.
