December 20, 2018

Crew members of the Crew Transportation Spacecraft (CTS) Soyuz MS-09, which undocked today from the International Space Station (ISS) have successfully returned to Earth.

The descent vehicle with Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergei Prokopiev, ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst and NASA astronaut Serena Aunon-Chancellor landed in the steppes of Kazakhstan on December 20, 2018 at 8:02 Moscow Time.

During all the crew return operation the spacecraft commander Sergei Prokopiev used for communications with the ground the backup communications system of his spacesuit. Concurrently with Sergei Prokopiev, a running commentary on the landing process was also being provided by the Flight Engineer 1, ESA astronaut Alexander Gerst.

All the operations associated with the de-orbiting and landing went normally. The health of the crew upon return to Earth is good.

The crew of Expedition ISS-56/57 stayed in space for 197 days. The CTS Soyuz MS-09 had been staying attached to the ISS since June 8, 2018.

During their stay onboard the International Space Station the crew completed a program of scientific and applied research under the Expedition program, kept the ISS station in good working order, and outfitted the station with additional equipment delivered by cargo vehicles.
