Roscosmos. Workshop: Cosmonautics: Open Space for International Cooperation and Development

Held on November 19, 2018 in Moscow (pavilion Cosmonautics and Aviation VDNKh) was workshop Cosmonautics: Open Space for International Cooperation and Development dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the International Space Station (ISS). The organizer was State Corporation Roscosmos.

Taking part in the workshop were heads and representatives of the State Corporation, as well as of the rocket and space industry enterprises, heads and representatives of foreign space agencies, participants of international expeditions to the International Space Station, representatives of veterans of the rocket and space industry, invited guests and mass media.

Within the framework of the opening ceremony, welcoming addresses to the workshop participants and guests were given by the General Director of State Corporation Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov, representatives of foreign space agencies participants in the ISS project: William Gerstenmaier (NASA), Johan Dietrich Verner (ESA), Koichi Wakata (JAXA). They were joined by the chairman of the Scientific and Technical Council of State Corporation Roscosmos Yuri Koptev, who was one of the originators of the ISS project, participants in the first expedition to the station pilot cosmonaut, executive director for manned space programs Sergei Krikalev and astronaut Robert Cabana (who had been the NASA director for manned spaceflight program in Russia in 20012002).

Specifically to mark the 20th anniversary of the ISS, Roscosmos TV studios produced a documentary, covering in detail the station history and assembly milestones, which was also shown to the participants in the workshop.

At the discussion of the topic International Space Station Historical Achievements and a Stage in the Development of Manned Spaceflight, which was moderated by Sergei Krikalev, its participants shared interesting facts about the station development process, engineering aspects, difficulties and problems, encountered by countries participating in the project. The speakers were first deputy general designer for flight operations and tests of rocket and space systems Vladimir Soloviev, deputy general designer, head of spacecraft and orbital stations control system division at RSC Energia in 19982007 Vladimir Branets, director of the ISS/FGB program at Khrunichev Space Center Sergei Shaevich, deputy chairman of the scientific and technical council of State Corporation Roscosmos Nikolai Moiseev, astronaut Robert Cabana.

One more discussion within the framework of the workshop Outlook for the Development of World Manned Spaceflight became an occasion for discussing the future of not only the ISS, but other projects as well, which could be implemented taking into account the experience of the international cooperation. This part of the event was moderated by acting general director of federal state unitary enterprise TsNIIMash Nikolai Sevastianov, and its participants were heads and representatives of the above space agencies, including general designer of Russias manned programs Yevgeny Mikrin and Mohammad Al Ahbabi from the space agency of the United Arab Emirates.

The final part of the conference was dedicated to formulating propositions, which could become the foundation for cooperation and development of manned spaceflight. After a wrap-up session and closing remarks all the guests watched a multimedia show specially prepared for the 20th anniversary of the ISS.
