The XXVI-th International Space Olympiad for schoolchildren is over. It was summed up on Friday in the science city of Korolev.

This year the Olympiad was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the launch of the Russian module Zarya – the first module of the ISS and the 80th anniversary of the science city of Korolev. 115 schoolchildren from Russia and Belarus took part in ISO.
Vakhtang Vachnadze did no live to see the 100th anniversary of the plant he dedicated all his life to, dying just a few days before it. He was one of Korolev’s teammates and he was getting ready for this date as thoroughly as if he was preparing to launch man into space. As always, he was responsible for everything: he took upon himself a tremendous amount of work systematizing all the periods in the history of the Experimental Machine-building Plant (ZEM), held many meetings with veterans and young people, recalled himself (an he had an amazing memory!) and collected from various sources the names of the people who worked at the plant and were active participants in the development of all the famous products of Energia, to make sure their names stay in the history of the company and the space exploration.

On October 25, 2018, departed from this life Vakhtang Dmitrievich Vachnadze, a designer who was directly involved in setting up production of space hardware, developing manufacturing processes for our country’s first long-range ballistic missiles and launch vehicles, our country’s first unmanned spacecraft and satellites, space systems under programs of manned spacecraft Vostok, Voskhod, Soyuz, lunar programs L1 and N1-L3, programs of orbital stations Salyut, Mir, space upper stages Block D and DM, cargo spacecraft Progress and who was in charge of activities to build the reusable space system Energia-Buran.

The 26th International Space Olympiad (ISO) is now under way in the town of science Korolev. One of the principal organizers of this intellectual contest for schoolchildren has traditionally been, along with the town administration, RSC Energia.
Big Challenges-2018 summit ended in Sochi

The opening ceremony of the Olympiad took place on Friday. ISO participant, according to the established tradition, laid flowers to the monuments to Sergei Korolev, and then, at Lyceum No.5, there was a gala concert.
The annual summit of young scientists and engineers “Big Challenges for Society, State and Science” has come to an end at the educational center Sirius (Sochi). Taking part in it were representatives of from RSC Energia.
Energia specialists to take part in the mission SIRIUS-18/19

The participants in the event were 250 students from 78 universities of more than 20 regions of Russia – graduates of Sirius, winners and seekers of grants from the President of the Russian Federation.
RSC Energia employees are going to take part in a series of international experiments SIRIUS-18/19 conducted by the Institute for Biomedical Problems (IBMP) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

SIRIUS (Scientific International Research In Unique Terrestrial Station) is an experiment, which is to be conducted in preparation for deep-space missions, first of all, to a circumlunar station. Participants in the study will spend in isolation in the ground experimental facility of the IBMP 17 days to a year.
On October 19 through 26 the town of Korolev near Moscow will host the 26th International Space Olympics (ISO) for schoolchildren. One of its main organizers has traditionally been RSC Energia. The Olympics is one of the key vocational guidance projects of the Corporation.

This year the Olympics are dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the launch of the Russian module Zarya, the first module of the ISS, and the 80th anniversary of the town of science Korolyov. Taking part in the Olympics will be children from Russia and Belarus. Defending their creative projects and proving the high level of their training will be children from all the towns of science located in the Moscow province.
The town of Blagoveshchensk hosted the 4th All-Russia Youth Space Festival ‘CosmoFest Vostochnyi-2018 and a career-guidance event ‘Days of Roscosmos’, taking part in which was a delegation from RSC Energia.

CosmoFest is held annually by Amur State University with support of State Corporation Roscosmos, federal Agency for Youth Affairs, Government of the Amur Province, and with participation of the All-Russia public-private children and youth organization Russian Schollchidren’s Movement.This year it was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the ISS, taking part in the festival were more than 1 500 schoolchildren and students from various regions of Russia.

The LES flawless performance in the off-nominal situation during launch of Soyuz MS-10 that enabled the crew to return safely to Earth has kindled keen interest of the media in the system which had been developed at RSC Energia in cooperation with other companies in the industry. The meeting was organized so that reporters could use its results to bring to the general public the information that is comprehensive and, what is most important, reliable.

Today's Soyuz FG launch of Soyuz MS-10/56S/ISS Expedition 57 Crew - Roscosmos Cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin and NASA Astronaut Nick Hague - reminded us that spaceflight remains a daily challenge.
However, their safe return confirmed the extraordinary robustness of the Soyuz crew transportation system and its criticality for the whole ISS partnership. It was also a demonstration of the outstanding operational work of the rescue and recovery team who took such a great care of Alexey and Nick.
The State Commission investigating the off-nominal situation with the launch vehicle (LV) Soyuz-FG and the crew transportation spacecraft Soyuz MS-10 headed by the General Director of State Corporation Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin has gotten down to work at Baikonur. First reports have been handed in, based on the analysis of telemetry data received from LV Soyuz-FG.

Today, on October 10, the State Commission at the Baikonur launch site have approved the prime and backup crew assignments for transportation spacecraft Soyuz MS-10 and confirmed the readiness of Rocket and Space Complex Soyuz-FG/Soyuz ÌS-10 and the ground infrastructure to the launch under the International Space Station (ISS) program.

The main crew of ISS-57/58 Expedition consists of Roscosmos cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin and NASA astronaut Nick Hague. Their backups are Roscosmos cosmonaut Îleg Kononenko and CSA astronaut David Saint-Jaques.
Today, on October 9, medium capacity launch vehicle Soyuz-FG with manned transportation spacecraft Soyuz MS-10 was carried out from the integration and test facility and erected on the launch pad of Launch Site No.1 “Gagarin’s launch pad” of Baikonur launch site.

L-1 day program activities have begun.
Tomorrow, on October 10, the meeting of the State Commission will approve the crew assignments for Soyuz ÌS-10 and ISS-57/58 Expedition, followed by a prelaunch press-conference at which the cosmonauts and astronauts will answer questions of the journalists.
Today on October 8, the representatives of the Technical Management and State Commission on Baikonur Launch Site issued a decision on readiness of the rocket and space complex consisting of manned spacecraft Soyuz ÌS-10 and launch vehicle Soyuz-FG for roll-out and erection on the launch pad.
Soyuz MS-10 spacecraft has been transported to final assembly

In the course of the day RSC Energia specialists successfully performed a set of processing operations on the final assembly of the rocket and space complex: the nose assembly with the spacecraft was mated to the third stage of the rocket in the integration and checkout facility of launch vehicles.
Today on October 6, manned transportation spacecraft Soyuz MS-10 developed and manufactured by RSC Energia within the nose assembly was transported for final assembly with launch vehicle Soyuz-FG.
Soyuz MS-08 crew returned to the Earth

The Soviet spacecraft Sputnik-1 was given reference designation PS-1 (Russian acronym for “Simplest Satellite-1”), its mass was 83.6 kg, and its diameter was 0.58 m. It was launched from Test Range 5 of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR ‘Tyura-Tam’ (for the public media this classified name was replaced with ‘Baikonur Cosmodrome’) on the launch vehicle Sputnik developed on the basis of the intercontinental ballistic missile R-7.

RSC Energia takes part in the industry-based Roskosmos Spartakiad

Earlier, on Saturday, September 29, the spacecraft had been delivered to the spacecraft processing facility after successful completion of operations to fill it with propellant components and compressed gases and installed into a jig for further pre-launch processing.
RSC Energia select team takes part in the industry-based Spartakiad of the State Corporation Roscosmos. The opening ceremony took place last Saturday at the recreation center Zvezda belonging to Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center.
This year the Spartakiad is held for the third time. More than 1200 amateur athletes from all over Russia are representing 30 companies in the rocket and space industry. The RSC Energia select team includes 56 athletes and the coaching staff.
