The operating principle of such a structure is simple: It is delivered to orbit in a compact stowed configuration, it is then pressurized and transformed, after which the structure hardens when exposed to space environment.
This technology could be used for antenna reflectors, solar arrays, extension rods for payloads and so on.

After the filling the spacecraft was brought into the spacecraft processing facility and installed into a jig for conducting final processing operations.
Today, June 26, the technical management at the Baikonur launch site has confirmed the readiness of the cargo transportation spacecraft Progress MS-09 for filling with propellant components and compressed gases.

According to the decision announced as a result of the meeting, authorization to proceed with operations at the filling station was given with regard to the integrated propulsion system and the refueling system of the logistics spacecraft. The filling station equipment is ready for the operations.
Pre-launch processing continues at Baikonur cosmodrome of the cargo transportation spacecraft Progress MS-09. Specialists from Roscosmos companies have conducted tests of the solar arrays of the cargo spacecraft.

The tests include deployment of solar array panels and their inspection with subsequent exposure to illumination from special lights while monitoring the level of electric current in the onboard cabling of the spacecraft in order to verify circuit continuity and functionality of critical elements in the power supply system.

The idea to use pure reactive iodine as the so-called working medium of an engine – the substance needed to generate propulsive thrust – was put forward as early as 1990s by a senior research scientist of the Corporation Valeri Ostrovsky.
In 2006 he took out the initial patents. A research effort on this subject began in 2012 upon an initiative of Boris Sokolov, an outstanding domestic propulsion expert, an honored veteran of Energia.
On June 19, 2018, the Space and Aviation Center at VDNKh hosted an educational event - a meeting of the world’s first female cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova with the youth working in the rocket and space industry. Among those who came to talk with the legendary ‘Seagull’, whose mission took place 55 years ago, were young employees of RSC Energia.

June 14, 2018 marks the 55th anniversary of the mission of Valery Bykovsky who carried out a joint flight with Valentina Tereshkova on Vostok-5 and Vostok-6 spacecraft. Valery Fyodorovich Bykovsky is pilot-cosmonaut of the USSR No.5, twice hero of the Soviet Union, who flew three space mission with the total duration of 20 days 17 hours 47 minutes 21 second.

On June 8 at 16:01 Moscow time Soyuz MS-09 manned transportation spacecraft with the crew onboard successfully approached Research Module Rassvet of the International Space Station (ISS). The Soyuz MS-09 spacecraft crewmembers are ISS 56/57 Expedition crewmembers: ROSCOSMOS cosmonaut Sergey PROKOPIEV (commander), ESA astronaut Alexander GERST and NASA astronaut Serena AUNON-CHANCELLOR (flight engineers).

The day before a joint team of specialists from SC ROSCOSMOS enterprises performed an inspection and acceptance of the spacecraft which arrived from Korolev by rail.
RSC Energia successfully continues design work on the advanced Crew Transportation Spacecraft (CTS) Federatsiya. Yesterday a team of specialists from the flight testing department of the Corporation performed developmental testing and prototyping of restraints inside the CTS command compartment.

- We have prepared inputs for locations of restraints supporting cosmonauts' activities. That is, we have defined where the spacecraft interior designers are to place hand-rails in the command department so as to make it convenient for the Federatsiya crew to work during different mission phases, - said the head of the flight testing department Mark Serov.
On June 7 Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobiev presented state and regional awards to the Day of Russia to outstanding residents of the Moscow region. Galina Balashova, the first interior designer of spacecraft and orbital stations of the USSR, author of space symbols, was awarded badge “For Service to the Moscow Region” Third Class. All her life she worked at S.P. Korolev RSC Energia (former OKB-1 and NPO Energia).

The 3rd Corporate Championship Young Professionals of Roscosmos-2018 conducted per WorldSkills standards has finished at Yekaterinburg. Representatives of RSC Energia are among the best in two skills areas: Dmitri Androsov placed third in prototyping, while Vadim Prikhodko became the first in the skills area CAD Engineering Graphics.
Soyuz MS-09 crews confirmed

Altogether, there were participants from 26 teams representing companies in the rocket and space industry of Russia competing in six skills areas of the championship: “Milling using numerically controlled machine tools”, “Turning using numerically controlled machine tools”, “Welding”, “Electronics” “CAD engineering graphics” and “Prototyping”. Taking part in the corporate tournament which ran for five days, were 146 participants and as many experts.
Today, June 5, the State Commission at the Baikonur launch site approved the lists of the main and the backup crews of the crew transportation spacecraft Soyuz MS-09 and confirmed the readiness of the integrated space launch system Soyuz-FG/Soyuz MS-09 and its ground infrastructure for the launch under the ISS program.

ROSCOSMOS. Spacecraft Soyuz ÌS-07 crew returned to the Earth

L-1 day program activities have begun.
On June 3, 2018 at 15:39:42 Moscow time the crewmembers of manned transportation spacecraft Soyuz ÌS-07 and ISS-54/55 Expedition successfully returned to the Earth. The decent module carrying ROSCOSMOS cosmonaut Anton SHKAPLEROV, NASA astronaut Scott TINGLE and JAXA astronaut Norishige KANAI landed in the Kazakh steppe.

All re-entry and landing operations went normally. The health status of the returned crewmembers is good. The on-orbit duration of the mission for the ISS-54/55 Expedition crew was 168 days.
Today, on June 3, the representatives of the Technical Management and State Commission on Baikonur launch site issued a decision on readiness of the rocket and space complex consisting of manned spacecraft Soyuz ÌS-09 and launch vehicle Soyuz-FG for roll-out and erection on the launch pad.
Soyuz MS-09 spacecraft has been transported to final assembly

The final assembly of the rocket and space complex has been successfully completed. In the course of the day the nose assembly with the spacecraft was mated to the third stage of the rocket at the integration and checkout facility of launch vehicles.
Today on June 1, manned transportation spacecraft Soyuz MS-09 developed and manufactured by RSC Energia within the nose assembly was transported for final assembly with launch vehicle Soyuz-FG.
Transportation was performed by rail vehicles. A set of processing final assembly operations is scheduled for June 3 at the launch vehicle integration and test facility within the prelaunch processing operations under the International Space Station (ISS) program.
