Designer's inspection and encapsulation of Soyuz MS-09 crew transportation spacecraft complete

RSC Energia specialists working in the spacecraft processing facility at Baikonur launch site have completed designer’s inspection of the crew transportation spacecraft Soyuz MS-09 and performed processing operations to roll on the payload fairing of the launch vehicle Soyuz-FG.

According to the spacecraft pre-launch processing schedule on Thursday, May 31, there will be a ‘second fit-check’, when the main and the backup crews will perform a check of the spacecraft in its launch configuration.

The championship is going to take place in Yekaterinburg on June 1 through 5, 2018 on the premises of NPO Avtomatiki. Taking part in it will be 146 representatives of 27 companies in the rocket-and space industry.
Specialists of RSC Energia Flight-Space Center received patents for inventions that will allow to control the cosmonaut actions and readiness for performing flight missions.
Dmitri ROGOZIN appointed head of State Corporation ROSCOSMOS

The system in the experimental verification phase in the future will enable to determine precisely the cosmonaut location inside the station, his body orientation, position of the head and even the cosmonaut view direction. The purpose of the development is to increase the effectiveness of monitoring and control the cosmonaut actions.

Star Track begins in Korolev

After fueling, the vehicle was delivered to the spacecraft Assembly and Testing Facility (SC ATF) and installed in the assembly jig for further prelaunch operations.
All-Russian rapid chess tournament Strar-Track-2018 which was held in Korolev, Moscow region, at a period of May 18-20 was over. Its participants and guests were hospitably received by sanatorium-preventorium Podlipki. The tournament indeed became a chess holiday which gathered professionals and fans of this game from many cities of Russia.

The ISS-56/57 prime crew consists of ROSKOSMOS cosmonaut Sergey PROKOPIEV, ESA astronaut Alexander GERST and NASA astronaut Serena AUNON-CHANCELLOR. Their backup crewmembers are ROSKOSMOS cosmonaut Oleg KONONENKO, ESA astronaut David SAINT-JACQUES and NASA astronaut Anne McCLAIN.
The launch of spacecraft Soyuz MS by launch vehicle Soyuz-2.1a is planned for August 2019. The spacecraft will flight in an unmanned mode, that will make it possible to increase the payload by several times due to the lack of a part of the instruments and assemblies required to support the crew activities. Currently, the unmanned version of spacecraft Soyuz MS is at the stage of compartments assembly.

On Monday, May 14 RSC Energia (which is included in State Corporation ROSCOSMOS) held a session of the Council of Chief Designers for the Russian Segment (RS) of the International Space Station (ISS).
Anniversary on a cosmic scale

After opening remarks of General Designer of RSC Energia Yevgeni Mikrin, the Council of Chief Designers reviewed the launch readiness of the new-series manned transportation spacecraft Soyuz MS-09 and launch vehicle Soyuz-FG. Also reviewed were the readiness of the ISS, the launch and range facilities, LOCT and MCC equipment and personnel, search and rescue vehicles, crew medical support, and Expedition crews for the upcoming work.
Today, May 14, an honored veteran of the Corporation, Boris Alexandrovich Sokolov turned 95. His whole life is inextricably linked with Energia, with scientific and practical work on the development of engines, propulsion and power-generating systems.
Boris Sokolov’s working career began in 1947. Upon graduating from the motor engineering faculty of the Moscow Aviation Institute he was assigned to the Research Institute 1 (NII-1) of the Ministry of Aviation Industry of the USSR, but six years later, at the invitation of S.P.Korolev, he became an employee of Special Design Bureau 1 (OKB-1) and has not changed his place of employment ever since.
