RSC Energia: Council of Chief Designers for Angosat SC

November 14, 2017

On Tuesday, November 14, at a session of the Council of Chief Designers, First Deputy General Designer of RSC Energia Igor Frolov made a report on the Angosat project milestones completion.

In particular, he said in the work on the Angosat spacecraft (SC) a number of innovative solutions was used, which made it possible to build a fairly powerful SC with a mass that is relatively low for the satellites of this class – as low as 1647.0 kg. Furthermore, Angosat is built around a new satellite bus consisting of Russian-made components.

The satellite bus makes it possible to use an up to 7 kW repeater system powered by 28 V, 50 V, 100 V power supply voltages.

According to Frolov, Angosat SC, just as all the unmanned SC built at Energia before that, uses an electric propulsion system, which enables a slow ascent of the spacecraft to its final orbit (if need be) and corrections of its orbital position.

He also reported that the Angosat SC design effort involved the first use of a virtual reality facility established at RSC Energia.

Report on the readiness of the Control Ground Segment (CGS) of the Angosat SC was made by the Head of the Center for Onboard and Ground Radio Systems Igor Brodsky, who announced that CGS components have passed all the tests on the territories of Russia and Angola. Technical facilities and communications equipment of the Angosat CGS, as well as the personnel of the operations control team, are fully ready for flight tests of Angosat SC.

Reports on the readiness of all the systems of the Angosat SC for flight tests and shipment of the Angosat SC to the Baikonur launch site were made by chief designers, responsible representatives of RSC Energia and subcontractor organizations.

The session of the Council of Chief Designers resulted in a decision to proceed with the Angosat shipment to Baikonur, where the work is continuing on preparing the LV and the upper stage for the launch of the SC.

In conclusion, Igor Frolov thanked representatives of State Corporation Roscosmos and all the companies participating in the implementation of the Angosat project: ZAO ZEM, AO NII Argon, NII Komandnykh Priborov, AO AVEKS, PAO Saturn, ZAO TsSKT, OOO NPO Rubikon-Innovatsiya, AO NPP Geofizika-Kosmos, OOO NPP TAIS, OOO S7 Space Transportation Systems, TsNIIMash, as well as specialists of military representative offices who provided quality control surveillance.
