The results of the 21st Scientific and technical conference of young scientists tallied up

November 3, 2017

On November 3 the closing session of the 21st Scientific and Technical conference of young scientists and specialists dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the launch of the first artificial satellite of Earth was held at S.P. Korolev RSC Energia. The organizer of the conference was Energia Corporation.

About 400 young scientists and specialists from 83 leading companies in the industry and the best engineering universities of our country took part in the conference. Besides young people from Energia Corporation they included Rocket and Space Center Progress, Khrunichev State Research and Production Space Center, Pilyugin Research and Production Center for Automatics and Instrumentation, Sukhoi company, Makeev State Rocket Center and others.

Presented in sixteen workshops were 327 papers on research studies, engineering design and procedural concepts, experimental studies, as well as projects to develop and introduce into production advanced manufacturing processes and materials, to improve managerial techniques and design management. About half of the presented papers were prepared by employees of RSC Energia.

The closing session was opened by the chairman of the conference organizing committee, general designer of the Corporation, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Y.A. Mikrin. He noted that the largest number of papers were presented at the workshops Production and Manufacturing Processes (49 papers) and Structures, Strength and Materials Science (47 papers).

- Presented and discussed within the framework of the conference were all the topical issues of rocket and space industry. The level of the papers was very high, - said Yevgeni Mikrin.

The top prize of the conference went to a team of authors from RSC Energia Y.V. Avrutski, A.A. Zabazny, O.V. Pryalukhin for their paper The Use of Virtual Reality Technology in the Development of Rocket and Space Hardware in workshop Manned Space Systems. Presented in this work was the first use in the industry of the new design tool built in the Corporation on a very short notice the virtual reality test bed.

Sergei Afanasiev Prize was awarded to the composite work of RSC Energia employees A.V. Dvornikov, A.S. Kirichek, P.P. Kresik, O.V. Pryalukhin on the subject of Development of the Design and the Manufacturing Process of Structure of the Middle Adapter Made of Composite Materials for the Upper Stage 1448 in the workshop Structure, Strength and Material Science. The developed design and application of the new manufacturing process resulted in a 90 kg (13%) reduction in the mass of the middle adapter as compared with its aluminum analog and a test proof of the mandrelless process of its manufacturing using and engineering mockup built at the scale of 1:6.

The winners of the top prize, Sergei Afanasiev Prize, as well as the first, second and third prizes in each of the sixteen workshops were congratulated by the general designer of the Corporation, academician of RAS Y.A. Mikrin, first deputy general designer, corresponding member of RAS V.A.Soloviev and general designer of RSC Energia Experimental Machine-building Plant I.Y. Maltsev. Honorary certificates and trophies were presented to the participants in the conference by advisor to the general director, professor, doctor of engineering science B.A.Sokolov and deputy head of scientific and technical center for space flight activities, pilot-cosmonaut, Hero of Russian Federation A.F. Poleshchuk.

Presented at the 21st Scientific and Technical Conference were also other interesting papers by young scientists and specialists of RSC Energia covering the major lines of activities the Corporation. In the workshop Onboard Control Systems a lot of interest was attracted by the paper by young scientist from Energia R.A. Tokarev, D.A. Ivanov and S.A. Shakirov Development of Emulators of Ground Systems for Debugging the SC Onboard Control Systems. The paper addresses the development of models of onboard computer systems capable of solving the problems of real ground debugging facilities.

Due interest was aroused by a paper by an employee of RSC Energia A.A. Nikitin on the subject of Multithreaded Chip Interconnection Architecture of Systems Consisting of Several FPGAs, which was declared the best in workshop Instruments and Systems. Solutions proposed in that paper could become the basis for technology breakthrough in a whole range of activities, which is especially relevant today, when production switches to use of components made in our country.

Highly praised was the paper Upgrading the Ground System for Receiving and Processing Images for Working with the Earth Remote Sensing Spacecraft. It took the first place in the workshop Onboard and Ground Radio Systems. Its authors are also RSC Energia employees V.P. Prokopiev, Y.S. Negin and Y.S. Kuznetsov. For the first time young specialists of the Corporation using new hardware and software developed a system for receiving and processing images from space. In addition, the full processing of data takes an hour and a half, rather than four days, as was the case in the past.

Another contender for the top prize was a paper by employees of the Corporation V.V. Voronina and S.I. Kretova Dynamic Model for Studying Loading Modes in the Course of Transformation of Large-Scale Space Structures, presented in the workshop Space Ballistics, Aerogasdynamics, Heat Exchange, Dynamics of Transient Processes and Loadings.

A special feature of the conference was participation of high-school students in its proceedings. Pupils of Gymnasium No.5 (Korolev) Anastasia Mironova for her paper New Explosive Method of Coating Application and Albina Dratskaya for her paper Square and Cubic Composite Material Cells Based on a Solution of the Steiner Problem were awarded honorary certificates and trophies.

To summarize the results of the Conference, a collection of abstracts of the papers presented at the 21st Scientific and Technical Conference of young scientists and specialists was published. Its online version can be found at the conference web site.

The best papers (that have not been published before) on recommendation from the organizing committee of the Conference may be published in the scientific and technical journal Space Engineering and Technology, which is on the List of the State Commission for Academic Degrees and Titles.
