RSC Energia: students satellites are ready for delivery to Baikonur

May 16, 2017

Specialists of RSC Energia, students and young scientists of the South-West State University (SWSU, Kursk) completed tests of small satellites of the autonomous smart constellation in the framework of Radioskaf Space Experiment and prepared them for delivery to Baikonur.

The uniqueness of such an autonomous smart constellation of small satellites is that new scientific and technical solutions will ensure self-organization of satellites and their interaction for conducting experiments in space.

The first task within of the current phase of the Experiment is to achieve autonomous self-organization of satellites to assess the capability of including more satellites in this constellation. In the future the capability of distributed reception of a radio signal will be provided.

The second task is to measure vacuum density using a vacuum gauge developed at SWSU. This will allow to specify parameters for calculating satellite ballistics and optimize a mathematical model of their trajectory.

The Progress MS-06 cargo transport vehicle the launch of which is scheduled for this June will deliver the students satellites to the International Space Station.

The satellites will be launched by the Russian cosmonauts during extravehicular activity in remarkable for Russian cosmonautics 2017 the year of the 60th anniversary of the space age and the 160th anniversary of the founder of cosmonautics Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky. The Earth will receive voice messages of congratulation in four languages (Russian, English, Chinese, Spanish) from satellites at 3-min intervals. The messages will be transmitted at a frequency available for radio amateurs.

You can see detailed information on the Experiment on SWSU official site.

RSC Energia is the leader in the rocket and space industry, and the prime contractor for manned space systems. The Corporation conducts work on the development of unmanned space and rocket systems (launch vehicles and orbital transfer vehicles), and high-technology systems for various non-space applications. Since August 2014, the Corporation is headed by Vladimir Lvovich Solntsev.

SC ROSCOSMOS is a State Corporation that was established in August 2015 to implement a comprehensive reform of the Russian rocket-and-space industry. State Corporation ROSCOSMOS ensures the implementation of the Russian governments space program and its legal regulation. ROSCOSMOS is also placing orders for the development, manufacture and supply of space equipment and space infrastructure objects. The state corporation is also responsible for international space cooperation and arranging conditions for the future use of results of space activities in the social and economic development of Russia.
