RSC Energia starts working to develop the ERS satellite for Egypt

July 28, 2016

The Rocket & Space Corporation Energia specialists presented the design configuration of the Egyptsat-A spacecraft (SC) to be developed in the interests of the National Agency of the Arab Republic of Egypt for the Earth Remote Sensing.

We have formed a Board of chief designers, discussed the technical and production readiness of all cooperation organizations for execution of work to develop the Egyptsat-A spacecraft. The representatives of all cooperation organizations have confirmed that they are ready to develop, manufacture and deliver components for the new spacecraft, - General Designer of Automatic Space Complexes and Systems of RSC Energia Igor Florov said based on the results of the meeting held at the Corporation with the participation of representatives of SC ROSCOSMOS, URSC and the cooperation enterprises.

The Egyptsat-A spacecraft will have the improved performance characteristics as compared with its predecessor – the Egyptsat SC. The satellite in particular will have the improved optoelectronic system and the onboard control complex, a high-rate RF-link and the solar arrays with increased efficiency.

The use of these modernized systems will extend the spacecraft capabilities with regard to the corridor mapping and aerial survey of the Earth surface, increase the rate of the survey process, improve the accuracy of the image georeference to the mountain terrain. In this case the share of the home-produced components in Egyptsat-A will be substantially higher than in Egyptsat.

Deputy Head of Scientific-Technical Center of RSC Energia Igor Brodsky said: The inclusion of the home-produced transmitters of the X-band in the onboard equipment of the Egyptsat-A SC will be an excellent example of using the tested on the ISS technologies in the Corporation commercial projects.

The Egyptsat-A spacecraft will be manufactured by RSC Energia in accordance with a warranty for Egypt. The work financing will be carried out at the expense of the insurance coverage for the Egyptsat SC.

RSC Energia is the leading enterprise of rocket-space industry, the prime organization for manned space systems. The Corporation is working to develop unmanned space and rocket systems (launch vehicles and interorbital transfer vehicles), high-tech systems for various applications to be used in non-space fields. Since August 2014 the Corporation is headed by Vladimir SOLNTSEV.
