Findings of the State Commission on the failure of Progress M-27M logistics spacecraft will be announced before May 13 - Roscosmos

April 29, 2015

A working group tasked with establishing the causes of the contingency situation with the cargo spacecraft Progress M-27M was set up by the decision of the State Commission for flight tests of manned space systems. The State Commission's findings are expected no later than on May 13, announced Roscosmos.

"Detected in the course of additional tests of the systems and assemblies of the spacecraft conducted on April 29, 2015, were failures of individual elements and units of the spacecraft, as well as a lack of pressure integrity in the lines of the propulsion system. In view of this the continued mission of the spacecraft and its safe docking with the ISS does not seem possible", - says the announcement summarizing the briefing that was held at Roscosmos in connection with the failed launch of logistics spacecraft Progress M-27M.

It points out that at present the spacecraft poses no threat to the International Space Station due to a significant difference in orbital altitudes. According to preliminary estimates, Progress M-27M will de-orbit and burn up in the atmosphere within the next few days.

According to Roscosmos, the off-nominal situation with the ISS logistics, which emerged as a result of the failed launch, has been worked out.
