The Soyuz TMA-10M crew consisting of O. Kotov, S. Ryazansky and M. Hopkins returned to Earth!

At 07:24 Moscow Time, descent module (DM) of Soyuz TMA-10M manned transport vehicle (MTV) made a landing in the design area 147 km to Soyuz-East of Jzhezkazgan, the Republic of Kazakhstan. All the operations associated with DM descent, search and landing passed normally.

Russian cosmonauts O. Kotov and S. Ryazansky, U.S. astronaut M. Hopkins have completed their flight to the International Space Station under the program of ISS-37/38 Expedition.

At the Mission Control Center near Moscow (MCC-M) the work in support of MTV de-orbiting maneuvers and its DM re-entry, the search for the landed descent module and evacuation of the crew from it were performed under the supervision of the State Commission for Flight Testing of Manned Space Systems (chaired by O.N. Ostapenko) and the Technical Management for flight tests of manned space systems (headed by President and General Designer of RSC Energia V.A. Lopota).

During re-entry the vehicle flight was controlled by the Lead Operations Control Team (the Flight Director is the First Deputy General Designer of RSC Energia V.A. Soloviev) working at MCC-M in cooperation with specialists of the Air and Space Search and Rescue, other Russian organizations and services, as well as the U.S. Mission Control Center in Houston.

The final descent and landing operations of the manned transport vehicle were witnessed by the representatives of Roscosmos, NASA and other foreign space agencies, Russian companies and organizations involved in the ISS program implementation, who were present at MCC-M.

The work onboard the ISS is continued by the ISS-37/38/39 crew consisting of Russian cosmonauts M. Tyurin, U.S. astronaut R. Mastracchio and Japanese astronaut K. Wakata.

For reference:

  1. RSC Energia is the prime company in the Russian rocket and space industry in the field of the manned space flight programs, responsible for the development of the ISS Russian Segment, its integration into the Space Station and operation including development and operation of the principal modules of the Segment (Zvezda, Pirs, Poisk, Rassvet, Nauka, etc.), for manufacturing, launch and operation of Soyuz TMA and Progress M vehicles.
  2. The mission of O. Kotov, S. Ryazansky and M. Hopkins lasted more than 166 days.
  3. During the mission the crew of ISS-37/38 worked with three Russian, a European and U.S. cargo transport vehicles. They completed the planned program for scientific and applied research and experiments. Oleg Kotov and Sergey Ryazansky made three space walks under the Russian program. The crew re-docked Soyuz TMA-09M from Mini Research Module Rassvet (MRM-1) to the docking port on the instrumentation and propulsion compartment of Service Module Zvezda.
