106th anniversary of S.P. Korolev

Ceremonies were held on the S.P. Korolev RSC Energia company's premises, in the town of science Korolev, and in Moscow to mark the 106th anniversary of Sergei Pavlovich Korolev (Jan 12, 1907 - Jan 14, 1966) - an outstanding scientist, farther of our country's rocket technology and space flight, Chief Designer of the legendary Special Design Bureau No.1 (OKB-1), the man who directed the work on the development of the first long-range ballistic missiles in our country, Earth artificial satellites, manned spacecraft, unmanned interplanetary probes.

Taking part in the events were the S.P.Korolev RSC Energia managers and representatives of the workforce, representatives of the Council of Deputies, administration and general public of the town of science of Korolev; Corporation veterans, relatives and associates of S.P.Korolev, cosmonauts, as well as young scientists and professionals - participants in the annual competition for the S.P.Korolev prize sponsored by the town, as well as local high-school students - winners of the International Space Competition and all-Russia competitions in various high-school disciplines.

The events opened with a ceremony at the Corporation Museum to present awards and medals of the Russian Federation of Astronautics, and trophies to the winners of the contest of young scientists and specialists, as well as to honor high-school students who had won in all-Russia high-school contests. The talented young people were congratulated by: President and General Designer of RSC Energia V.A. Lopota, acting Head of the town of Korolev A.P. Maslov, head of the town Administration Y.I. Logvinenko, the daughter of Sergei Korolev - N.S. Koroleva. They wished the contest participants further successes in their work and creative efforts.

The award ceremony for the winners of the town's competition among young scientists and specialists traditionally takes place on the birth day of S.P.Korolev. For their significant contribution to the development of space science and technology, development and introduction of new technologies, outstanding results in production and popularization of our country's achievements in space, the winners of 2012 competition are:

  • A.V. Starodumova (1st prize), TsNIIMash,
  • A.I. Streltsov (2nd prize), RSC Energia,
  • a group of authors consisting of I.V. Pegin, E.A. Shalamov, R.V. Iliin (3rd prize), KB ChimMash,
  • A.Y. Kutomanov (encouragement prize), TsNIIMash.

After that a delegation of representatives of S.P. Korolev RSC Energia, of the town of science Korolev and of the family of S.P. Korolev laid flowers to memorial plaques and monuments to the Chief Designer both on the corporate premises and in the town of Korolev, as well as in Moscow to the monument to S.P. Korolev on the premises of the Central Museum of Space Flight and to the Kremlin wall at the Sergei Korolev's burial place.

 

For reference:

  1. This town's contest for S.P. Korolev Prize was held for the 15th time. In the intervening years, submitted to the competition were more than 230 papers from 257 contenders, 85 of which were nominated for the prize.
  2. Submitted to the contest in 2012 were 20 papers from young scientists and specialists from the leading space industry organizations in the town.
