RSC Energia is an active participant of the space cooperation program between Russia and Republic of Angola

A delegation of S.P.Korolev RSC Energia headed by A.V. Vovk, First Deputy General Designer returned from the Republic of Angola, where they took part in the activities starting an active project implementation phase in development of the Angosat satellite communication and broadcasting satellite system for this African country.

RSC Energia is a Russian primary industrial body leading the cooperation of the Russian and Foreign associate contractors under this project.

On December 21, 2012 a press conference of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Angola was convened in Luanda which marked the beginning of the project activities. The press conference was participated by Rosoboronexport / RSC Energia delegation.

The minister for telecommunications and information technologies of the Republic of Angola Mr. Jose de Carvalho da Rocha reported at the press conference that in the recent three years the first home geostationary satellite shall appear in the country, which will afford opportunities in expanding satellite communication services, access to Internet, radio and TV broadcasting. He stated that the Contract for manufacturing and commissioning of the Angosat space system also covers an improvement of the existing national communication and data transfer network, construction of the Mission Control Center and Central satellite communication network station in Luanda, as well as training of the Angolan specialists. The Minister stressed the point that other African countries can use the Angosat satellite communication system services.

For reference:

  1. The Angosat Project Contract was signed by the Russian and Angolan Parties in 2009. In the following years both parties carried out a hard joint work in organization of the project financing, that made it possible to proceed to its practical implementation.
  2. The Angosat Project calls for development of a communication satellite with 44 equivalent - and u-band transponders, its launch into a geostationary orbit and development of the ground communication and TV broadcasting infrastructure. The Mission Control Center and Central satellite communication network station are planned to be built in the suburbs of Luanda. Moreover, the Project provides for activities on improvement of the currently exciting ground segment of satellite television broadcasting system of the Republic of Angola.
