RSC Energia commenced activities on flight item of Nauka module

S.P. Korolev Rocket-Space Corporation Energia commenced activities on preparation for conducting check-out tests of flight item of multipurpose laboratory module (MLM) Nauka.

From December 7 to 14 the specialists from RSC Energia after S.P. Korolev and SSRC after M.V. Khrunichev performed works on unloading flight item MLM from railway car and installed it on work bench in the main room of RSC Energia Integration and Test Center (KIS).

Thereafter, flight item autonomous and integrated tests are supposed to be conducted, including those together with ground integrated stands for other ISS RS modules and Progress and Soyuz space vehicles currently in use.

 

For reference:

  1. RSC Energia is the leading enterprise of rocket-space industry in Russia in the field of manned space flight programs, responsible for building the ISS Russian Segment (RS), its integration into the station and operational use, including building and operation of the main modules (Zvezda, Pirs, Poisk, Rassvet, Nauka, etc.); manufacture, launch and operation of Soyuz TMA-M, Progress M space vehicles.
  2. It is scheduled to launch module Nauka to the ISS at the end of 2013.
  3. MLM launch mass is 21,2 tons.
  4. MLM outfitting: internal and external multipurpose work stations for scientific equipment installation, airlock, additional life support and thermal control facilities. It is foreseen to install European manipulator ERA on the module external surface.
  5. Flight item MLM for integrated ground stand was delivered to RSC Energia on November 8, 2011. Preparations are currently under way to ensure its integrated activities with the flight item.
