Generation of database for the ISS RS own outer atmosphere (OOA) parameters depending upon orbital flight.


  • determining own outer atmosphere parameters (residual pressure, approach flow magnitude, concentration of charged particles) as test medium for conducting technological and material science experiments;
  • determining how operation of flight systems related to OOA disturbances impact the process of OOA parameters forming and their variation dynamics;
  • assessment of how OOA and other external contamination sources impact service life and separate components of the ISS RS, as well as functional reliability of the ISS RS as a whole;
  • defining more exactly the ISS RS OOA physical and mathematic models based upon OOA parameters measurement results obtained.

Science Hardware Used:

Scientific equipment Indikator MKS refers to magnetic-discharge pressure transducer and is designed to measure concentration of rarefied gas on the orbital complex external surface and detect approach flow of inert gas and charged particles flow in area where input converter is located.

Expected Results:

Study of OOA compound manifold action on operational characteristics of separate orbital station systems which affect reliability and efficient operation of object as a whole (solar arrays, windows, attitude control systems).

Experiment Results:

Data array (files with recorded information) containing service and OOA parameters accumulated in MRM2 TV device and downlinked to the ground.
