Technical Research on ISS Russian Segment

KAP 07 Experiment

KAP 07 experiment forms part of the research program performed by South Korean astronaut Yi So Yeon under KAP Project on the ISS RS. The research program is preparation and implemented on order by the South Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).

Synthesis of zeolite microcrystals in uniform shape and size in microgravity.

Obtaining two- and three-dimensional zeolite arrays with aligned axes of microcrystal zeolite.

Science Hardware Used:

  • Zeolite oven kit containing experiment hardware presenting a monoblock composed of an oven and temperature controller.
  • Vessel kit containing nine reaction vessels with reagents of microcrystal source. The vessels contain the same amount of source in various concentrations. The experiment vessels are Teflon vessels with source in which the zeolite is synthesized in two aluminum sealed cases.

Flight Equipment Used:

  • Camera Nikon D2X;
  • Camcorder Sony HVR-Z1J.

Experiment Results:

Microcrystals obtained in microgravity and accompanying photo and video information recorded on a flash card and video tape to be returned to ground.
