Human Life Research on ISS Russian Segment
Experiment GOSUM forms part of the scientific research program performed by Brazilian Astronaut Marcos C. Pontes (BSA) on
the Russian Segment of the ISS in the frame of CENTENARIO Brazilian
Soyuz Mission Project. The Brazilian Space Agency is a customer of the preparation and implementation of the research program.
Assessment of seeds growth in space conditions as compared to the seeds grown on the ground.
Germination of seeds "Goncalo-alves" (Astronium fraxinifolium) aboard the ISS RS.

- Photo information on the seeds germination process in the microgravity conditions downlinked from the ISS RS,
- Observation log with information on the seeds growth,
- Kits with germinated seeds.
Four kits with ten seeds Astronium fraxinifolium in each are used in the experiment. Two kits shall be exposed in the light, the rest shall be exposed in the dark. The seeds germinate at the temperatures from +20 to +30°C and at a low concentration of oxygen (3%). Activation of the germination process is performed through seeds wetting using the enclosed syringe with water.
To determine the germination rate and germ phenotype, photography by onboard camera is used.
Laptop is used for the following processing of digital photos and their preparation for downlink.
