September 11, 2019

At the Baikonur Cosmodrome the final stage of training of the prime and backup crews of the Soyuz MS-15 spacecraft for flight to the International Space Station has begun.

Today, on September 11, in accordance with the training schedule in the Assembly and Test Facility of the 254th site of the cosmodrome, the crews completed the first training in the manned transport spacecraft.

Cosmonauts and astronauts underwent an introductory briefing on safety measures, got acquainted with the crew working procedure, performed the fit check of flight suits, and after a leak test they took their places in the spacecraft.

Under the control of specialists, the crews checked the radio communication system, the laser range finder, got acquainted with onboard documentation, studied the flight program and the list of cargo that is supposed to be delivered to the ISS.

During the final lessons at the cosmodrome, trainings are also planned for manual berthing of the spacecraft to the ISS, check of the science hardware kits, testing of upcoming ballistic operations and other preparatory procedures.

The prime crew of the ISS-61/62 consists of Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Skripochka (commander), NASA astronaut Jessica Meir (flight engineer) and space flight participant from UAE Hazzaa Al Mansuri. Their backups are Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergei Ryzhikov, NASA astronaut Thomas Marshburn and space flight participant Sultan Al Neyadi (UAE).

The launch of the Soyuz-FG launch vehicle with the Soyuz MS-15 spacecraft is scheduled for September 25 from Gagarin’s launch pad of the Baikonur launch site.
