Born on November 26, 1963 in Cheverly, Maryland, USA.

EDUCATION:
Received a Bachelor of Science degree in space technology from the US Air Force Academy in 1998. In 2000 received a Master of Science degree in aerospace engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

MARITAL STATUS: married. They have two children.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
Since August 2000 he served at the Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
In 2003-2004 he received training at the US Air Force test pilot school at the Edwards Air Force Base, California. In 2004 he was made commander of an air unit in the 416th flight test squadron at the Edwards Air Force Base in California. He took part in tests of aircraft avionics and engines, developmental tests of large angles of attack, weapons systems and carried out certification test flights on various aircraft, including F-16, F-15 and T-38.
November 2004 through April 2005 he took part in operation Horned Owl as a radar station operator, photographer and flight test engineer. During this operation which was conducted in Iraq and consisted in detecting explosive devices planted near roads and weapons hid in the desert, he took part in 139 operational missions on a C-12 aircraft and in detection of 45 explosive devices.
He served as a manager in charge of developing solar arrays for SC and advanced missile interception systems at the Space Vehicles Directorate of the US of the US Air Force Research Laboratory at the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
Since 2006 he was astronautics instructor and the head of the astronautics department at the US Air Force Academy, Colorado. He held courses in introductory astronautics, analysis and synthesis of linear control systems and suba diving.
In 2009 he was appointed a consultant on national defense and foreign policy in the US Senate. After which he served in Pentagon as a consultant on budget appropriations to the US Joint Command.
From 2012 till enrollment in the astronaut corps he worked as deputy director at the joint organization to counter improvised explosive devices under the aegis of the US Ministry of Defense.
On June 17, 2013 he enrolled into NASA astronaut corps as an astronaut candidate. In August 2013 he started basic astronaut training. Upon it completion on June 9, 2015, he was given the status of an active astronaut. 
On January 16, 2017 he was introduced to the management and staff of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center and began his training. The training program includes the study of the design and systems of Soyuz MS crew transportation vehicle and the Russian Segment of the ISS, training sessions to practice actions in case of landing in various climatic and geographic areas, individual elements of biomedical training, conducting certain joint scientific experiments, as well as the study of the Russian language. On January 23, 2017, as a member of a notional crew together with Nikolai Tikhonov and a Cosmonaut Training Center instructor Igor Pereverzev he began training to practice actions in case of landing in marshy and wooded country in winter. The crew ‘survived’ in a forest near Moscow for 48 hours. During that time the participants in the training session changed into thermal protective suits inside the descent vehicle, practiced the actions involved in construction of a temporary shelter, gained experience in administering medical aid and interactions with the search and rescue team. In addition to this the crew practiced all the operations required for survival in case of an emergency landing of the descent vehicle.
In early February 2017 the Multilateral Crew Operations Panel (MCOP) approved his assignment to the crew of Soyuz MS-10.
In July 2017, using the facilities of Center 179 of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Noginsk, Moscow region, a notional crew consisting of Alexei Ovchinin, Nick Hague and Richard Arnold has undergone training to practice actions in case of spacecraft landing on the surface of water – so called ‘water survival’.
On November 30, 2017 by decision of the Interagency Commission he was approved as the flight engineer-1 of the backup crew of Soyuz MS-08 and flight engineer-2 of the main crew of Soyuz MS-10.

On February 20, 2018, at the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, together with , he passed a qualification training session in the Soyuz MS simulator, and on February 21, 2018, an examination training session in the ISS Russian Segment simulator.
On March 2018 at a meeting of the State Commission for conducting flight testis of manned space systems at Baikonur cosmodrome he was approved as a flight engineer of the backup crew of Soyuz S-08, flight engineer of ISS-55/56.
On June 6, 2018 during the launch of Soyuz S-08 he was the backup of the flight engineer of the spacecraft.
