December 11, 2017

Today, on December 11, at Baikonur Cosmodrome RSC Energia (being part of SC ROSCOSMOS) specialists conducted the designer’s inspection of the new-modification manned transport vehicle Soyuz MS-04 and performed a set of technological operations on encapsulation of launch vehicle Soyuz-FG.

The vehicle prelaunch processing under the International Space Station (ISS) Program is under way at the spacecraft assembly & testing facilities (SC ATF) at Baikonur Cosmodrome.

Per the preparatory work schedule the second training session of the crews, transportation of the payload module with Soyuz МS-07 from SC ATF to the launch vehicle integration and test facility (LV ITF) for final assembly with launch vehicle Soyuz-FG, finall assembly and rollout of the Soyuz LV to the launch site is planned for this week.

The launch of Soyuz MS-04 carrying the crew of the next long-duration tour to the International Space Station (ISS) is scheduled on December 17, 2017 from Baikonur cosmodrome. ROSCOSMOS cosmonaut Anton SHKAPLEROV, NASA astronaut Scott TINGLE and JAXA astronaut Norishige KANAI are crewmembers of the ISS-54/55 Expedition.

The transport manned vehicle Soyuz MS developed and built by RSC Energia is designed to deliver the crews of up to three and their accompanying cargos to the International Space Station (ISS), as well as to return them to Earth. When attached to the ISS, it also serves as a crew rescue vehicle and is kept permanently ready for emergency crew return to Earth.
