Soyuz MS-07 spacecraft is Mated to the Transfer Compartment

December 8, 2017

Today, on December 8, RSC Energia specialists successfully performed processing operations at Baikonur cosmodrome relating to the new-modification manned transport spacecraft Soyuz MS-07 mating to the transfer compartment.

The spacecraft prelaunch processing under the International Space Station (ISS) program is under way in the spacecraft Assembly and Testing facility (SC ATF) at Baikonur cosmodrome.

Per the spacecraft processing schedule, the designer’s inspection of the spacecraft and encapsulation will take place on December 11.

The launch of Soyuz MS-07 with the crew of the next expedition to the International Space Station is scheduled for December 17, 2017 from Baikonur cosmodrome. The ISS-54/55 Expedition prime crew consists of ROSCOSMOS cosmonaut Anton SHKAPLEROV, NASA astronaut Scott TINGLE and JAXA astronaut Norishige KANAI.

The new-series spacecraft Soyuz MS is a result of a radical upgrade of Soyuz TMA spacecraft. It is designed to deliver the crews of up to three and their accompanying cargo to the International Space Station (ISS), as well as to return them to Earth. When attached to the ISS, it also serves as a crew rescue vehicle and is kept permanently ready for emergency crew return to Earth.
