Soyuz TMA-08M launched to the ISS!
It carries onboard P. Vinogradov, A. Misurkin and C. Cassidy

In accordance with the mission plan of the International Space Station (ISS) and Russian commitments under this international project, a manned transportation spacecraft Soyuz TMA-08M was launched from Baikonur launch site at 00:43:20 Moscow Time.

The objective of the launch is to deliver to ISS a crew of three in order bring the crew of Expedition Thirty Five (ISS-35) up to six.

The crew of Soyuz TMA-08M consists of: Russian cosmonauts Pavel Vinogradov (spacecraft commander), Alexandr Misurkin (spacecraft flight engineer) and US astronaut Christopher Cassidy (flight engineer-2 of the spacecraft).

The spacecraft was put into a parking low-Earth orbit with the following parameters: 51.68° inclination , 200.76 km minimal altitude, 246.76 km maximum altitude, 88.69 minutes orbital period.

The onboard systems of the spacecraft operate normally.

The spacecraft pre-launch processing and launch at the launch site were supervised by the Chairman of the State Commission for manned systems flight tests, the head of Roskosmos V.A. Popovkin and the Technical Manager for flight tests of manned space systems, the RSC Energia President and General Designer V.A. Lopota.

According to the telemetry data and reports from the crew of ISS, the space station systems operate normally. The station is ready for docking with the spacecraft.

For information:

  1. RSC Energia is the prime manned space flight organization in the Russian rocket and space industry, responsible for the development of the ISS Russian Segment, its integration into the Space Station and its operation, including development and operation of the principal modules of the Segment (Zvezda, Pirs, Poisk, Rassvet, Nauka etc.), manufacturing, launch and operation of Soyuz TMA and Progress M spacecraft.
  2. Currently working onboard ISS is the crew of ISS-35 consisting of: Russian cosmonaut R. Romanenko and astronauts C. Hadfield (Canadian Space Agency), T. Marshburn (NASA).
  3. The docking of Soyuz TMA-08M with ISS is scheduled for March 29, 2013 at 06:32:00 Moscow Time.
  4. The mission plan for Soyuz TMA-08M calls for the spacecraft to rendezvous and dock with the ISS within six hours after its orbital insertion. This rendezvous profile has been tried out during flights of unmanned cargo spacecraft Progress M to the ISS. The implementation of this rendezvous and docking profile will make it easier for the crews to adapt to spaceflight environment. Against the possibility of contingencies during rendezvous using the new profile, methods have been developed for safely switching to the standard two-day rendezvous profile.
