Born July 27, 1961 in Manchester, CT, but considers Yarmouthport, MA, to be his home.
Father - Dan Burbank.
Mother - Joan Burbank.

EDUCATION:
In 1979 he graduated from Tolland High School in Tolland.
In 1985 he received a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
In 1990 he received a Master of Science (aeronautics) from the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

FAMILY STATUS: married.
Wife: Rosalin Bowman. They have two children.

AWARDS:
Decorated with: Defense Superior Service Medal, Air Medal, two Coast Guard Commendation Medals, Coast Guard Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Humanitarian Service Medal. He is also decorated with two NASA Space Flight Medals.

HOBBY: running, skiing, hiking, sailing, amateur astronomy, playing guitar.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
In May 1985 Burbank was assigned to Gallatin boat of the U.S. Coast Guard.
From January 1987 to February 1988 he passed flight training at Pensacola Base, Florida.
He served as commander of HH-3F Pelican helicopter and also as commander and instructor of HH-60J Jayhawk helicopter, Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City North Carolina.
In July 1992 Burbank was assigned as a Rotary Wing Engineering Officer and HH-60J commander/instructor, namely Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Massachusetts, but in May 1995 he was transferred occupying the same post to Coast Guard Air Station Sitka, Alaska.
Burbank took part in NASA astronaut selections 14/15 but was not selected.
On May 1, 1996 he was selected as an astronaut candidate, the 16-th selection, NASA. He passed a two-year course of general space training. Upon completion of this training course he got qualification of the mission specialist and was assigned to the Operations Planning Branch of NASA Astronaut Office where he was engaged in performing the ISS operations (due to which he often visited Russia), namely he was the Shuttle and the ISS crews communication operator (CAPCOM).
On February 18, 2000 Burbank was assigned to STS-106 crew as a mission specialist.

He performed his first space flight on September 8 - 20, 2000 as a mission specialist in the Atlantis (STS-106) crew. The main objective of that flight was to deliver the following onboard the ISS: cargoes and the equipment required to receive the first permanent crew.
The mission duration was 11 days 19 hours 12 minutes 14 seconds.

On February 27, 2002 he was assigned as a mission specialist to STS-115 crew; the launch of STS-115 was scheduled to be performed in Spring 2003. However, because of the Columbia catastrophy on February 1, 2003 the flight was postponed.

He performed his second space flight on September 9 - 21, 2006 as a mission specialist in the Atlantis (STS-115) crew. The flight objective was to deliver two new solar panels /4 to the ISS. During the flight Burbank performed one extravehicular activity on September 13 of the duration of 7 hours 11 min.
The mission duration was 11 days 19 hours 06 min 35 seconds.

In January 2007 he was transferred to NASA astronaut-manager category and till the end of 2008 worked at the Coast Guard Academy, Connecticut. In January 2009 he was transferred to the active astronaut category once more.
On April 30, 2009 at the solemn ceremony held at the Coast Guard Academy Burbank retired after 24 years of service.
In July 2009 it was reported on his possible assignment to the prime crew of the ISS Expedition 29. On October 7, 2009 his assignment was confirmed by NASA (press release 09-233).
At a period of January 20 to February 2, 2010 Burbank as a member of the preliminary crew together with Anatoliy Ivanishin and Anton Shkaplerov participated in a two-day training for survival in the deserted area in case of emergency landing of the descent vehicle. These trainings were provided in the forest near Moscow.
On March 4, 2011 at the Cosmonaut Training Center he together with Anatoliy Ivanishin and Anton Shkaplerov passed the examination training on the Soyuz TMA simulator. On March 5, 2011 the crew passed the preflight examination training on the ISS Russian Segment. The Commission of the Cosmonaut Training Center appreciated the crew operation during the integrated two-day training With an excellent mark.
On March 11, 2011 Burbank was approved by the Interdepartmental Commission at Yu.A. Gagarin CTC as a flight engineer of the Soyuz TMA-21 vehicle backup crew.
On April 4, 2011 at the meeting of the State Commission at the Baikonur cosmodrome he was approved as a flight engineer of the Soyuz TMA-21 vehicle backup crew.
During the launch of the Soyuz TMA-21 TV on April 4, 2011 he was the vehicle flight engineer backup.
