DATE AND PLACE OF BIRTH:
April 1, 1973, Chuguev, Kharkov Region, the Ukraine.
Father: Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Volkov, born in 1948, Hero of the Soviet Union, pilot-cosmonaut of the USSR, a retired colonel.
Mother: Anna Nikolaevna Volkova (Volik), born in 1950, a librarian.

EDUCATION:
In 1995 he graduated from Tambov Higher Military Pilot School after M.M. Raskova; his specialty: Command Tactical Bomber Aviation.

FAMILY STATUS: Married.
Wife: Natalia Viktorovna Volkova (Shinkarenko), an accountant.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
From March 5, 1996 he was a pilot, from April 30, 1996 and up to the assignment to the cosmonaut detachment he was the assistant commander of the air control and retransmission squadron aircraft. Flied aircraft L-29, L-39, TU-134, IL-22. He has logged about 350 hours. Has qualification of a third-class military pilot.
On December 26, 1997 he was assigned as a test cosmonaut candidate to Yu.A. Gagarin CTC.
From January 1998 to November 1999 he passed a course of general space training and on December 1, 1999 a qualification of a test cosmonaut was conferred on him.
From January 2000 he passed training in the group for a space flight under the ISS program.
He is currently training for a space flight as a flight engineer of the back-up crew (VC-10).
