DATE AND PLACE OF BIRTH: July 30, 1962 in the Yavas settlement, Zubovo-Polyansk Rigion, the Mordovian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. Father: Nikolai Serafimovich Dezhurov born in 1933, lives in the Yavas settlement, the Mordovian Republic. Mother: Anna Vasilievna Dezhurova died in 1995.

EDUCATION: In 1983 he graduated from the Kharkov Higher Military Aviation School after S.I. Gritsevets, Twice Hero of the Soviet Union, in 1994 he graduated from Yu.A. Gagarin Military Air Academy.

WORK EXPERIENCE: From 1983 to 1989 served as pilot, senior pilot in Air Force units of the Odessa military district.
He is a 3rd class military pilot. The total flying time is about 900 hours. He mastered three types of aircraft, instructor of parachute landing training, made 170 jumps.
In 1987 he was included in the cosmonaut team of Yu.A. Gagarin CTC.
From December 1987 to June 1989 he passed a course of general space training.
From September 1989 to February 1994 he was under training within the test-cosmonaut team.
From February 1994 to March 1995 he was under training for space flight on the Soyuz-TM TV and Mir OC as the prime Russian-American crew commander under expedition 18 program.
From March 14, 1995 to July 5, 1995 he performed a 115-day space flight on the Soyuz-TM space vehicle and Mir Orbital Complex as the prime Russian-American crew commander under expedition 18 program.
He made landing as the STS-71 crew member on the Atlantis Shuttle, performed five EVAs of the duration of about 25 hours.
He is a 2nd class test-cosmonaut - instructor.
From March 11 to July 7, 1997 he was the Technical Director of Yu.A. Gagarin CTC Office at Lindon B. Johnson Spacecraft Center.
Presently he is under training for space flight as ISS-1 backup crew pilot and ISS-3 prime crew pilot and Soyuz TM TV crew commander as well.
