Launch of an unmanned Vostok-type spacecraft.

August 19, 1960
Launch of Vostok-type spacecraft with dogs Belka and Strelka aboard. The animals were first returned to the Earth from an EAS orbit.

February 12, 1961
A four-stage rocket (R-7 + rocket modules I and L) put the Venera-1 unmanned interplanetary station into a flight trajectory to Venus.

April 12, 1961
World first manned flight around the Earth performed by cosmonaut Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin on the Vostok spacecraft.

August 6-7, 1961
Twenty-four hour manned flight around the Earth was first performed by cosmonaut German Stepanovich Titov on the Vostok-2 spacecraft.

1961-1968
Military rocket complexes R-9, RT-1 and RT-2 are developed. Complexes R-9 and RT-2 are put into service.

April 26, 1962
Launch of the Zenith satellite to take pictures of the earth's surface.

August 11-12, 1962
The first group flight of Vostok-3 and Vostok-4 spacecraft.

Launch of the Mars-1 unmanned interplanetary station that reached the Mars area on June 19, 1963.

March 18, 1963
Launch of a solid propellant ballistic missile RT-1.

June 16-19, 1963
World first flight around the Earth performed by woman-cosmonaut Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova on Vostok-6 spacecraft.

January 30, 1964
Launch of Elektron-1 and Elektron-2 satellites by one rocket to reveal and study the Earth's radiation belts. Elektron-1 satellite was separated at the launch vehicle powered flight phase.

October 12-13, 1964
A Voskhod multi-seat spacecraft with three cosmonauts on board is in orbit.

March 18, 1965
The Voskhod-2 spacecraft is in orbit. World first spacewalk and free flight in space is performed by cosmonaut Alexey Arkhipovich Leonov.

April 23, 1965
The first launch of a Molniya-series (Molniya-1) communication satellite into a high-elliptical geosynchronous orbit.

November 16, 1965
Launch of Venera-3 automatic interplanetary station which delivered a pennant with USSR emblem to the Venus surface on March 1, 1966.

February 3, 1966
The Luna-9 unmanned interplanetary station performed soft landing to the Moon and transmitted TV images of the Moon surface to the Earth.
