On February 2, 2009, the State Research Center of Russia known as the Central Research Institute for Robotics and Cybernetics (TSNII RTC), the city of Saint-Petersburg, hosted the International Scientific Technical Seminar devoted to the Space-Purpose Robotic Systems: Experience, Problems, Solutions.
The following organizations contributed to the seminar activity: TsNII RTC, S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia (RSC Energia), Saint-Petersburg's State Polytechnical University (SPbGPTU); (Russia): the Institue for Robotics and Mechatronics (IRTM) (Germany).
In his opening address to the seminar audience, V.A. Lopota, RSC Energia's President, General Designer, emphasized the importance of robotics in space exploration, especially for forthcoming interplanetary manned expeditions. He wished success to the seminar participants adding that the seminar further advances the cooperation between Russian and German scientists.
The following reports were delivered at the seminar:
IRTM - by K. Landzettel, the Director of G. Hirzinger's Institute and coordinator of Space Robotics Projects (subject: research in the development of robotic systems; ROKVISS Project being implemented at the International Space Station Russian Segment);
RSC Energia - by I.I. Khamits, the Head of Scientific-Technical Center for Designing Space Manned Complexes and Transportation Systems (subject: prospects for robotics application in the human flight programs, including their use in performance of extravehicular activities of the ISS crew members);
TsNII RTC - by V.P. Makarychev, the leading mathematician (subject: the Institute's space robotics-related activities).
The creative discussion resulting from the reports delivered was held, in which the following persons took part: V.I. Yudin, the First Deputy Director of TsNII RTC; A.S. Kondratyev, Deputy Director of TsNII RTC in charge of research work; S.K. Krikalev, RSC Energia's Deputy General Designer, the Corporation Cosmonauts' Team Test Cosmonaut; SPbGPTU's representatives.
