V.A. Lopota, the President of S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, General Designer, met with D. Rorabacher, the Member of the US Congress House of Representatives, who had visited the day before the Corporation Stand at the ILA-2008 International Aerospace Show in Berlin.
RSC Energia after S.P. Korolev hosted the meeting where they discussed different subjects, such as flight safety of the Soyuz space vehicles utilization of the International Space Station (ISS), the prospects for cooperation between Russia and USA in the field of space-related activities.
D. Rorabacher, the famous American businessman, noted that he had no worries about the Soyuz manned space vehicles with respect to their flight reliability and safety. He expressed his belief that Russia and the United States should foresee, in the long term, implementation of large-scale space projects, with the top priority given to those connected with building a lunar base and ensuring the Earth protection from asteroids.
V.A. Lopota, the Corporation President and General Designer, and D. Rorabacher, the Congressman, expressed general opinion that cooperation of both space powers in ambitions space projects (such as, for instance, the ISS) is very productive, while implemented human space flights to the Mars could be of a greater benefit to future generations than manned space flights to the Moon.
The meeting was attended by the managers and lead specialists from RSC Energia after S.P. Korolev, as well as the representatives of NASA Office in Moscow.
