S.P. Korolev Rocket and Space Corporation Energia hosted the Chief Designers’ Council meeting presided over by the Corporation President, General Designer V.A. Lopota and devoted to the International Space Station Russian Segment (ISS RS). The Issues of readiness of the ISS RS and Russian systems installed on ATV transport cargo vehicle for launch of the first Joule Verne vehicle of these series were under consideration.
The reports, supporting papers, communications and opinions of responsible representatives from Russian enterprises and agencies involved in the project, as well as NASA and ESA, were heard at the meeting.
Program Directors, Deputies General Designer V.V. Ryumin and Yu.I. Grigoriev (RSC Energia) delivered their reports on the ATV/ISS RS integration activities conducted, ATV/RS interface verification, delivery and certification of the Russian system for ATV space vehicle; availability of resupply systems for Zvezda Service Module and the Russian Segment as a whole, Russian systems of ATV Joule Verne space vehicle, the station crew and the Program components for the space vehicle launch.
Deputy ATV Program Director Patrice Amadieu (ESA) reported work progress on the space vehicle and its prelaunch processing, with the launch from Kourou Cosmodrome slated on February 22, 2008.
ISS Program Director Michael Suffredini (NASA) reported the ISS American Segment readiness to handle ATV vehicle operations and NASA plans to launch Shuttle Orbiters for a period of handling operations with ATV.
RSC Energia’s First Vice-President, First Deputy General Designer N.I. Zelenschikov submitted the technical conclusion about readiness of the ISS Russian Segment, facilities and personnel of the space infrastructure ground segment for Joule Verne space vehicle launch, with due regard for the successfully completed scheduled tests of the segment resupply systems.
The Chief Designers’ Council resolved to agree to the ESA-proposed Work Schedule for ground training completion, launch and implementation of ATV Joule Verne Mission Program, as well as admit the ISS RS to handle operations with the above space vehicle, provided that the scheduled activities of the final prelaunch processing phase are completed.
Head of Federal Space Agency Office of Human Spaceflight Programs A.B Krasnov, heads of NASA and ESA representations in the Russian Federation F. Cleary and Kh. Feichtinger took part in the Council’s activities.
