June 1, 2007. RSC Energia after S.P. Korolev,
the city of Korolev, Moscow Region.

On May 17, 2007 the First Vice-President of S.P. Korolev RSC Energia, the Head of the Baikonur subsidiary Leonid Timofeyevich Baranov was awarded the title of the honorary citizen of Baikonur. It was the joint decision taken by the Commission on Awarding Honorary Titles and Decorations and Public Council of Self-management, the city of Baikonur. The ceremony devoted to awarding the honorary title will be held on June 2, 2007, in the central square of the city as part of the festivities in connection with the Day of the City celebration.

Leonid Timofeyevech Baranov was born on June 7, 1949 in Mukhinskaya village, Shimanovskiy district, Amur Region. In 1976, upon graduation of the Military Engineering-Space Institute after A.F. Mozhayskiy, Leningrad, he was sent to serve in the Army to Baikonur. In 1982 he graduated from the Military Academy of RVSN after F.E. Dzerzhinsky (now Academy of Peter the Great), Command Faculty, in Moscow. Also he took a course of training for top managerial staff at the Military Academy of General Staff during 1991 and 1993.
For the 23 years of service at Baikonur Cosmodrome Leonid Timofeyevich Baranov had made his career, beginning with a department technician and rising, finally, to the rank of Lieutenant-General, the Head of Cosmodrome.
He is also the distinguished military specialist of the Russian Federation, the Russian Government Prize Winner, the corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences after K.E. Tsiolkovskiy, Doctor of Sciences, the honoured tester of rocket and space technology. Also he was decorated with the “Red Star”, “For Military Services” Orders, 18 medals.
