the ISS Expedition Crew 14

November  23,  2006. Korolev, Moscow Region

The Expedition Crew 14 (ISS-14) of the International Space Station performed the first out of four extravehicular activities (EVA) foreseen in the Expedition flight program.
The egress and extravehicular operations were performed by Russian cosmonaut Mikhail Turin (RSC Energia test-cosmonaut) and NASA astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria wearing Orlan-M Russian spacesuits.
The crew emerged from the Russian docking compartment-module Pirs. The transfer hatch was open at 3:17 Moscow time.
In the course of EVA, having lasted for 5 hours 39 min, the Golf experiment was performed, with the operations being filmed. The neutron onboard telescope hardware and proximity communication equipment antenna required for the European Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV) docking to the ISS in 2008 were installed. The Kurs antenna of Progress M-58 cargo vehicle, which failed to fold at the vehicle docking to the station was inspected and shot.
ESA astronaut Thomas Reiter (ISS-14 crew flight engineer 2) staying inside the station supported the extravehicular activities performed by his colleagues.
The EVA operations were observed by managers and specialists of S.P. Korolev RSC Energia, NPP Zvezda, Roscosmos, Yu.A. Gagarin CTC RGNII and space organizations and enterprises participating in the implementation of the EVA program, being present at MCC-M.
