VLADIMIR SERGEEVICH SYROMYATNIKOV Chief research assistant
of S.P. Korolev Rocket & Space Corporation Energia,

Member of RAS died at the age of seventy three.
Fifty years of his life Vladimir Sergeevich devoted to development of rocket
and space technology. He rose from an engineer to a head of division of S.P.
Korolev RSC Energia.
Vladimir Sergeevich is a founder and leader of the Russian scientific school
in space docking, which has gained international recognition.
Under his supervision unique prototypes of highly reliable electromechanical
systems of spacecraft and stations, namely docking systems, onboard manipulators,
reusable solar arrays, as well as assemblies, actuators and electrical mechanisms
of onboard systems were developed.
Vladimir Sergeevich managed the works on development of the docking systems in
Apollo-Soyuz, Mir/Shuttle, ISS and ATV programs, participated in many ambitious
projects like Solar Sail Vehicle, Znamya-series and tether system experiments.
He was a Scientist of world reputation, Academician of the International Academy
of Astronautics, Full member of the U.S. Aeronautic and Astronaut Institute,
author of more than 120 inventions and many scientific works.
For great merits in development of space technology Vladimir Sergeevich Syromyatnikov
was given titles of laureate of Lenin prize and Honoured worker of science of
the Russian Federation.
Cherished memory of Vladimir Sergeevich Syromyatnikov is embalmed in hearts of
his colleagues, friends and like-minded persons at Corporation and many enterprises
of the Russian space industry and among his foreign colleagues. The Corporation
management and personnel bewail the death of a notable practical scientist and
present their condolences to his relatives and friends.
Memorial service for V.S. Syromyatnikov will take place at 11:00 on September
22 in chorus studio Podlipki (Children’s Club), Korolev, Moscow Region.
