OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
about building of MIR Orbital Station Museum Exhibit

December 29, 2005. Korolev, Moscow Region.

With a view to popularize Russian achievements in space exploration, familiarize wide circles of the Russian and world community with unique developments of the Russian scientific and industrial enterprises, as well as to retain the experience derived for more than 15-year flight of the MIR Manned Orbital Station, a museum exhibit of this unique engineering space facility of the 20th century was built at S.P. Korolev Rocket & Space Corporation Energia.
The exhibit has been built as agreed by the Federal Space Agency and from the Corporation funds including the funds that were handed over without return and voluntarily to S.P.Korolev RSC Energia in 1999 – 2000 by the organizations and individuals to support the MIR Station flight. These funds were not used to resolve this task caused by the insufficiency of their amount and due to the Resolution No.1035 “On completion of Mir Manned Orbital Station Operation” of December 30, 2000 adopted by the government of the Russian Federation.
The exhibit is an assembly of the orbital station made of the ground identical models of the core module and Kvant astrophysical module, which were used at S.P. Korolev RSC Energia as components of the ground integrated test stand of the MIR Station. They have been completed with additional assemblies, systems and instruments from among the unclaimed flight models. The exhibit also includes a solar array, a fragment of big truss structure Sofora, mannequins with Orlan spacesuits on and many other things. The total length of the exhibit is 19 meters.
The exhibit layout has been selected such that to provide a maximum visibility, convenient seeing and compactness. The exhibit is located in the Corporation museum. At the beginning of 2006 visitors of the museum will be able to see not only the external appearance of the MIR Orbital Station as configured in 1987 (with core module and Kvant module outfitted in the ensuing years), but also look into its habitable compartments, see the internal configuration elements and interior.
The personnel of Corporation being the prime developer of the MIR Station expresses their sincere appreciation to everybody who in the preceding years testified their concern about the fate of the Station and furnished an adequate financial assistance to support its further flight, that was unfortunately terminated on March 23, 2001.
The developers of the MIR Station, test cosmonauts and operation engineers hope that a decision to eternize the memory of this remarkable development of the mankind in the form of the exhibit will be adequately understood no only by those who assigned their means for the Mir-related activities, but also by all other people who realize the need for developing the manned space exploration and the inevitability of further advance of the Earth civilization into space, developers of the advanced rocket and space technology, and new generations of earthlings.
