PURPOSE:
Study the effect of microgravity on the microtubule
cytoskeleton of individual walled plant cells (plant
cells in suspension culture, Nicotiana tabaccum Bright
Yellow 2 cells).
OBJECTIVES:
- Determine the effect of microgravity on ordering
of microtubules in plant cells during growth
and cell division and on the ability of microtubules
to polymerise.
- Characterize the role gravity plays in self
organization of microtubules in a cellular system.
EXPERIMENT RESULTS:
Biology containers (8) returned to the ground.
EXPECTED RESULTS:
Further study of new kinds of plants for possible
cultivation in space.
