April 24, 2002. Baikonur cosmodrome.
At 8:00 a.m. Moscow time a meeting of the State Board for
the launch of the third Russian visiting crew to the ISS
took place in a special hall of Cosmonaut Hotel. The State
Board approved the Soyuz TM-34 prime crew consisting of
Yuri Gidzenko, Commander, flight cosmonaut of RF, Roberto
Vittori, Flight Engineer, ESA astronaut of Italian nationality,
and Mark Shuttleworth, space flight participant, citizen
of the South Africa. The backup crew consisting of Gennagy
Padalka, Commander, flight cosmonaut of RF, Oleg Kononenko,
Flight Engineer, test-cosmonaut of RSC Energia. The State
Board confirmed the scheduled launch date and time, i.e.
April 25, 2000 at 10:26:33 Moscow summer time (06:26:33
