Space industry marks the 105th anniversary of the farther of space flight S.P. Korolev

Ceremonies were held on the S.P. Korolev RSC Energia company's premises, in the town of science Korolev, and in Moscow to mark the 105th anniversary of Sergei Pavlovich Korolev - an outstanding scientist, farther of our country's rocket technology and space flight, Chief Designer of the legendary Special Design Bureau No.1 (OKB-1), the man who directed the work on the development of the first long-range ballistic missiles in our country, Earth artificial satellites, manned spacecraft, unmanned interplanetary probes.

Taking part in the events were the RSC Energia managers and representatives of the workforce, representatives of the administration and general public of the town of science of Korolev; Corporation veterans, relatives and associates of S.P. Korolev, cosmonauts, as well as guests from abroad, young scientists and professionals, mass media reporters.

In the morning a ceremony was held at RSC Energia museum to present awards, medals and trophies to the winners of the contest for the academician S.P. Korolev prize. This contest is held annually among young scientists and specialists employed by research and manufacturing companies and organizations of our town of science. Traditionally, the ceremony is held on the birthday of S.P. Korolev.

By the decision of the contest committee, the 2011 competition winners are the following representatives of the companies and organizations of the town of Korolev:

  • M.A. Komarova (1st prize), RSC Energia,
  • V.V. Voronin and O.I. Knyazev (2nd prize), RSC Energia,
  • Y.Y. Yudin (3rd prize), TsNIIMash,
  • A.A. Fedorov (prize for meritorious work), TRV Corporation
  • S.O. Shkarupa (prize for meritorious work), Korolev College for Space Machine-building and technology, Korolev,

The talented young people were congratulated by: Head of the town of Korolev V.A. Minakov, head of the town Administration Y.I. Logvinenko, minister of industry and science of the Moscow region V.I. Kozyrev; President and General Designer of RSC Energia V.A. Lopota, daughter of Sergei Korolev - N.S. Koroleva, director of the Space Education Institute of Germany Ralf Hekkel .

They wished the contest participants further successes in their work and creative efforts.

The town officials presented awards and commemorative medals to a number of employees of municipal organizations of the town of Korolev, timing this event to coincide with the anniversary of S.P. Korolev, who had directed a lot of his energies to the development of the town, which is now named after him. Director of the Space Education Institute of Germany Ralf Hekkel announced that for the first time the Alley of Space Fame in Florida, USA, recorded the names of two outstanding space scientists and engineers of Russia - S.P. Korolev and his associate B.Y. Chertok - in recognition of their services, and presented certificates attesting to this event.

After that, a delegation of representatives from RSC Energia, Korolev, the town of science, and S.P. Korolev's family, and cosmonauts laid flowers to memorial plaques and monuments to the Chief Designer on corporation premises and in the town of Korolev. Flowers were also laid in Moscow to the monument to S.P. Korolev on the premises of the Central Museum of Cosmonautics and to the Kremlin wall at the Sergei Korolev's burial place.

  1. This town's contest for S.P.Korolev Prize was held for the 14th time.
  2. Submitted to the contest were 28 papers from young scientists and specialists from the leading space industry organizations in the town.
